MediaTek has officially announced the Dimensity 9400e, a new high-end chipset variant that blends flagship-level performance with enhanced energy efficiency. Following a series of teasers, the company unveiled this platform as a refined alternative to the Dimensity 9400, with improvements likely on par with the upcoming Dimensity 9400 Plus.
A key feature of the Dimensity 9400e is its “All Big Core” architecture, which includes four Cortex-X4 cores running at up to 3.4 GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. This configuration is designed to deliver excellent multitasking capabilities and smooth performance in demanding applications, such as gaming and productivity tools.
Graphics processing is handled by the Immortalis-G720 GPU with 12 cores, operating at a peak frequency of 1.3 GHz. According to MediaTek, this GPU supports hardware-based ray tracing, enabling console-like lighting effects and improved gaming visuals.
In terms of efficiency, the Dimensity 9400e aims to deliver superior power management compared to its predecessor. It supports sub-6 GHz 5G with 4-carrier aggregation, allowing download speeds of up to 7 Gbps. The chipset is also equipped with tri-band Wi-Fi 7 and dual-SIM, dual-active (DSDA) connectivity, providing flexibility and high-speed wireless performance.
For imaging and audio, the Dimensity 9400e integrates MediaTek’s 18-bit RAW ISP, which includes dynamic noise reduction when recording using up to three microphones. These features contribute to professional-level photo and video capture, catering to content creators and multimedia users.
A standout element is the chipset’s support for generative AI, including compatibility with the Dimensity AI development toolkit and advanced inference decoding. It supports running large language models like DeepSeek-R1-Distill and LLaVA-1.5 7B, paving the way for on-device AI applications such as smart assistants and real-time content generation.
The first smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9400e are expected to launch later this month. OnePlus is set to debut the chipset, with realme likely to follow with its own model shortly after. With these enhancements, the Dimensity 9400e positions itself as a premium solution for high-performance mobile devices in 2024.
