After years of anticipation, Spotify may finally be preparing to launch its HiFi lossless audio streaming feature. Hidden references to the functionality have recently been discovered in the app’s latest version, indicating that the long-awaited rollout could be approaching.
The discovery was made by the team behind Spicetify, a popular customization tool for Spotify, which posted screenshots on X (formerly Twitter). These images revealed mentions of “lossless” audio quality in both the device connection menu and the streaming quality settings within the app.

Further evidence was found in the app’s code, suggesting support for lossless audio on Spotify Connect and even in the web version of the service. Although the feature is not yet available to users, the presence of these elements suggests Spotify is in the final stages of preparing the feature for release in an upcoming update.
Spotify originally announced the HiFi feature in 2021, promising to launch it within the same year. However, the plan was indefinitely postponed without explanation. In 2024, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek mentioned the development of a “deluxe” version of the platform. A report from Bloomberg later revealed that a new tier, likely called “Music Pro”, could include high-resolution audio and other advanced features, with a potential release by the end of 2025.
If launched, the Spotify HiFi plan is expected to be a premium add-on, possibly priced around $5.99 above existing subscription plans. This move would bring Spotify in line with competitors like Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal, all of which already offer lossless audio streaming as part of their standard or enhanced subscriptions.
